Jeanne Crain Leemon was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. Largely a self-taught artist, she had an interest in art at an early age and has continued to study on her own and develop her skills throughout her life. After moving to Knoxville, Tennessee in 1993, Jeanne was inspired by the people, countryside, and lakes in the area, all of which are recurring subjects of her paintings. She is strongly influenced by Realism, and also enjoys painting traditional still-life subjects. Jeanne paints in both oil and pastel, and has exhibited her work in group exhibitions and juried shows in Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama. She was also named as a finalist in The Artist’s Magazine’s Annual Art Competition in 2001. She is a member of the Southeastern Pastel Society and The Portrait Society of America, and her work is included in both private and corporate collections. Jeanne Leemon believes it is an artist’s responsibility to look deeply to see the beauty in simple things, to see through to a subject’s essence, and to reveal that essence in paint. “If I paint what moves and inspires me, hopefully others will be inspired as well.”
