Laura RossMost of my pots are thrown on the wheel then altered by changing the shape and manipulating the clay to reveal its flexibility. This manipulation is important to me as it enhances the liveliness of the pots which is what I am forever striving to achieve in my work. In 2008 Simon Levin built a soda car kiln for me so I am now firing all soda pots which has been been a thrill. Having made lots of test tiles in search for glazes which are exciting and answer my aesthetic needs, I feel like I might be “home” as I love the many options that soda firing has to offer.
Making pots has been a consuming passion throughout my career. For the past few, my focus has been on functional ware used for the table in a “gathering” environment centered around food. Baking dishes, individual serving pieces for special events, and altered teapots are favorite forms as well as one-of-a- kind sculptural vessels.
